I saw an interesting article this morning on Bloomberg citing CEO's optimism for the coming year.

One item of interest was that nearly 60% of CEOs surveyed responded that they planned to increase spending on equipment in 2011. At the same time, manufacturers have been slow to staff up from pre-recession levels. Our customers may be in a position where they have to do far more with a smaller staff.

It would seem that this is an opportune time for a company to search for areas to automate processes, to eliminate duplication of efforts, or to eliminate superfluous steps in the product development process. As always, we are here to work with you on these issues.

SolidWorks Motion Analysis

SolidWorks Motion Analysis helps users accurately simulate and analyze effects of motion elements (including forces, springs, dampers, and friction) on an assembly. Motion analysis uses kinematic solvers to account for material properties, mass and inertia in computations.

Users can also detect Interferences that occur between the selected components as the assemblies move through a specified range of motion.. Each interference detected shows the frame, time, part components and intersecting volume.

Using loads obtained from motion simulation users can perform stress, factor of safety or deformation analysis of components.

I just saw a great article that is very encouraging for our market. It is in today's Crain's Chicago Business, and it discusses a trend called "Near Shoring."

One of the key points that I took away from the article is that the Midwest may not have enough maufacturing talent to keep up with the demand if this trend continues.  This will cause a need for manufacturers to remain competitive in the market and attract key personnel by having the right set of tools.  Has your company adopted SolidWorks solutions yet?

SimpoeWorks for plastic injection simulation

SimpoeWorks is a great plastic injection simulation solution fully embeded into Solidworks graphic user environment. SimpoeWorks enables SolidWorks users to simulate complete manufacturing process of their plastic parts, from filling to warpage.

There are four modules in  SimpoeWorks

SimpoeWorks FILL, simulates part filling. Here users can visualize melt front, air traps, temperature and pressure distributions, shear rate, clamping forces. Also optimize gate locations.

SimpoeWorks PACK helps identify sink mark locations, optimize part manufactuing time and residual constraints.

SimpoeWorks COOL simulates thermal regulation during injection process, allowing to define optimum process time.

SimpoeWorks WARP simulates part deformation after mold opening. Effects of residual constraints, material shrinkage, part deformations can be studied. The deformed shape can be exported into SolidWorks for further structural tests.
